Our Vision

Our vision is to see many hundreds of Sudanses and other africans refugee children leave Egypt with hope in their hearts, a mind prepared for a productive life, and a life rooted in the truths of the Christian faith

Our Purpose

Our purpose is to provide a quality, comprehensive, Christian values-based education to Sudanese and other africans refugee children living in Cairo, Egypt; and to support the development of their social, emotional, and spiritual lives through a caring school community and the education of their parents or caretakers

The African Hope Learning Center began in Spring 1998. The need to educate the children of Sudanese refugees was great. Most Sudanese refugees stay many years in Egypt, either awaiting the chance to continue on to Australia or the Canada, or waiting to returning to Sudan – if peace ever comes. Thousands of the children of refugees do not have access to any education during their stay in Egypt.

In 1998, a few members of Maadi Community Church (a church for expatriates in Cairo) decided to do something for the many Sudanese refugee children ‘circling' around church. African Hope Learning Center (AHLC) was born.

AHLC is a low budget school. 500 children receive an education and a nutritious lunch every day. The total cost is less than US$20 per child per month. That means our total monthly cost is just over US$10,000.
